THE WHITE HOUSE CHRISTMAS TREE

The Christmas Tree has become a symbol associated with the Christmas season. This is the season where Christians celebrate the birth of  their Savior, Jesus Christ.  The custom of the tree was developed in Germany and its roots can be traced back to the 16th century. Over the centuries, the decorations on the tree have ranged from edible fruits and nuts to candles, garland, tinsel, edible candies and lights.

The top of the tree has been adorned with the beautiful stars and angels representing the guiding star and angels that led the wise men to the baby Jesus.

Over the past 50 years, Christmas trees of various styles with unique decorations have been displayed at the White House.  Historians and photographers have captured the images of these trees.  Above is a photo gallery of some of the images of Christmas trees over the past 50 years.   Do you have a favorite memory of a White House Christmas tree?
