Which side of the Fence Do You Stand? Fences New Movie ( Christmas Day)

Fences – Will It Be A Mirror Into the Soul of America?

In the U. S. and across the world for the past year, we have heard so much talk about fences and walls.  Now comes a new movie starring  Academy winning actors Denzel Washington and Viola Davis about Fences. As I watched the trailer from the movie, I was struck by the words:

Some people build fences to keep people out and some people build fences to keep people in.”

As I pondered those words, I thought this is so clairvoyant. In researching further, I found this definition of fences:

” a barrier, railing or other upright structure enclosing an area or ground to mark a boundary, control access or prevent escape.”

In thinking back over the 2016 U. S. elections and the chants to “BUILD THE WALL”,  “LOCK HER UP” I am faced with wondering if each of us examine the fences we embraced through our hearts and minds this year would we find them more inline with the fences that are all about CHRISTmas.

It’s not ironic that this movie is coming out on Christmas day, as we celebrate the birth of the savior of the world. What if Christ had built fences to keep us Gentiles out of the kingdom? What if He had closed his mind and heart to those of us who are not the chosen people? What if He had chosen to come down from the cross and let us burn for  eternity for our sins? What if He had chosen to hold hatred in His heart for those crucified him?

[dropcap]Y[/dropcap]et, our true example, Jesus Christ chose to NOT build fences to keep  people out, He chose to  remove the barriers and fences, open His heart  AND  let the people in.

I hope this will be a movie of both inspiration and examination for those that choose to watch it. I pray it will cause us to truly examine the fences we choose to build and if the fences are there to control access or prevent escape.
