No More Fancy Footwork From The Four in Fifties on DWTS
DWTS season 19 started strong for those in the fifties, but last night the hope of seeing a contestant in their 50s take the title ended. In last week’s show, 51 year old race car driver Michael Waltrip, ran out of gas and was eliminated. This week 53 year old, Lea Thompson, was voted off for fan favorite 76 year old Tommy Chong. In Monday’s competition, each team was required to perform two dances whereas the first dance style, costume and music was selected by the viewers.The night started strong for Lea and her partner Artem Chigvintsev. They performed a searing hot and sexy, soul stirring samba. As the audience watched the sleek moves of Lea dressed in a small tiger-striped bedazzled unitard , it was easy to forget the actress and mother is 53 years old. Len Goodman, even commented to her “You put the sin in syncopation”. Lea and Artem received a score of 34 out of 40.
The second dance included a third partner who was either an eliminated pro dancer or a member of the show’s troupe. In the second dance, Lea scored 36 out of 40. They danced a Paso doble with Lea and her dance partners dressed in all black leather. The men wore suspenders and no shirts and Lea loomed over them in the very intense style of dance to the tune of Ram Jam’s “Black Betty,”. The judges loved the freedom of the dance and how Lea incorporated their prior advice. It appears that she had saved the best for last. See her performance below.
